Your User Name is your name, with spaces. Note that your name is not case-sensitive, that is, upper and lower case letters are considered the same, so Joan of Arc is identical to joan of arc and JoAn OF ARC.
Your password/phrase is a single word or an entire phrase, sentence or soliloquy that you chose. Unlike your user name, the password/phrase is case-sensitive. This means Open Sesame is considered different than open sesame.
In each case, (name and password/phrase), extraneous spaces are ignored. So, “Joan of Arc” is considered the same as “ Joan of Arc ”.
If you have forgotten your password/phrase, it is impossible to recover it. However, all is not lost. Enter your name then click the Forgot Password button. An e-mail message with instructions on setting a new password will be sent to you.
About security: Your password is never actually sent to the web server. Instead, your computer performs a specific calculation involving the password/phrase you enter here, then sends the results of that calculation to the web server. That calculation must be done within a small period of time, and the results vary with each log in attempt. The web server performs a similar calculation and compares the results. This provides an extremely high level of security and is currently considered unbreakable.
It is important that you use passwords that are difficult to guess. To help make that easier, and still make it easy for you to remember, the password may actually be any phrase or combination of words you wish, the longer the better. Punctuation, numbers and spaces are all good to make guessing more difficult. Your password will be known only to you, it is never sent to the web server, so it cannot be saved on the web server.
